Kiewa River Trail Project

The Upper Kiewa Valley Community Association is exceptionally pleased to let our community know that the Kiewa River Trail project which commenced in 2018 has almost reached its eventual completion. Today the gentlemen of the Mount Beauty & District Men’s Shed installed the new signage and artwork on the Trail. Unfortunately with COVID restrictions as they are we are unable to hold an official opening ceremony but there are many groups that need to be acknowledged for their input.

  • The Victorian Government, through Pick MY Project, for funding to extend the trail beyond Pebble Beach.
  • The Alpine Shire for planning and management of the trail construction and the community grant towards the interpretive signs.
  • AGL for the community grant for the Pebble Beach artwork.
  • ALPS, Lions Ladies, Champagne Club, UKV Lions, Chamber of Commerce and Mount Beauty Rotary for the additional funding for the interpretive signs.
  • Dianne Griffiths for her beautiful photography.
  • Jim Crebbin and the many helpers who worked with him along the way.
  • The Mount Beauty & District Men’s Shed for all the labour required to install the signs.
  • Landcare for the work still ongoing to reinstate native plantings along the trail.

This has been a very collaborative project and we thank all who have been involved over almost 3 years.

More good news – the further trail extension along the East Kiewa River to Damm’s Rd is being scoped and the Carpark at the Trailhead, all going well, should be constructed by Christmas.

Spring 2021 News

Greetings to all our members

We were due to have our AGM on September 2nd but unfortunately, we were not able to use the Auditorium as planned due to COVID requirements.  We decided not to go ahead with a Zoom meeting as this would not have been very accommodating.

The AGM will now go ahead on Thursday, October 7th at 7.30pm in the AUDITORIUM, where we can host 20 members.  We do not plan to set up a Zoom meeting at this stage.

At the AGM there will be a Chairperson report of our progress over the last year and we will forward this to all members after the meeting.

We would like to have a few new members on the Committee, so if you are interested in helping to bring some new ideas/concepts to our committee, without having to commit to an Executive position, please contact me by email …                 info@ukvcommunity.org.au

or ‘phone on 0428 226 922

Hoping to hear from you soon or at the meeting.

Alpine Shire Council draft Plans – August 2021

Alpine Shire Council has prepared a draft Community Vision, Council Plan and Financial Plan, and are keen to know if the draft documents meet the needs of our community.

These key strategic plans provide medium and long-term strategic guidance for Council and have been developed following deliberative engagement with Council’s Community Panel.

If you would like to share your views on these key documents, please take some time to read them and make a submission by 3pm Thursday, 9 September 2021.

Your voice is important – please help us ensure these plans are reflective of community needs and aspirations.

Draft Community Vision 2040 and Council Plan 2021-2025 incorporating the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan

The Draft Community Vision 2040 describes the community’s aspirations for the future of the Alpine Shire, through to the year 2040.  These aspirations feed into the Draft Council Plan 2021-2025, which documents the strategic drivers, objectives, indicators and major initiatives that Council will implement over the next four years.  The Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan is incorporated into the Council Plan.

Draft Financial Plan 2030/31

The Draft Financial Plan documents the financial resources required for Council to give effect to the Draft Community Vision and Council Plan.  It includes information about the decisions and assumptions that underpin the forecasts in the financial statements.

Please think about the following five questions as you review the documents…

  1.  What do you like about the draft Community Vision?
  2. How could the draft Community Vision be improved?
  3. What aspects of the draft Council Plan incorpating the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan do you support?
  4. Is there anything we have missed in the Draft Council Plan incorporating the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan?
  5.   Are there any aspects of the Financial Plan that require clarification?

Anyone may make a written submission on the Draft Plans.  After considering submissions, Council will adopt the Plans at the Ordinary Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday 5 October 2021.
