Official Opening – Mt. Beauty Progressing Place Project

Wednesday, 6 July, 2pm  at the Foreshore Playground

After months of work and refurbishment of the Foreshore Playground and town centre, Alpine Shire are having an official opening on Wednesday, 6th July at 2pm.

This date is in the school holidays so families and visitors are encouraged to join in.

Francine Stacey, the Project Officer, is inviting local community groups who would like to undertake some fundraising.  This could be a sausage sizzle or a cake stall or an ice cream stall.  If you are interested, contact Francine on 5754 0567 or 0437 222 439 to discuss. This is especially important if you need power.

The event is holding a small competition for children and are hoping local traders may contribute a prize suitable for a child or family.  It could be a gift voucher, or goods  that could go into a prize hamper.  Contact Stacey if you can contribute a prize.

UKVCA hopes to see many community families and visitors celebrating this wonderful facility.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit suggestions.

Clearing the west and east side of the West Kiewa River of the dense infestation of invasive weed and inappropriate plantings  is being undertaken by DEWLP.   Work started last week.  Further work will take place and a team from the Green Army will arrive in June to undertake further work and plantings.

The Park with No Name!

Our community would be well aware of the lovely park  in town opposite the Post Office corner and the Swimming Pool.

This park has no official name and the Upper Kiewa Valley Community Association would like to propose a suitable name that reflects the town and community to the Alpine Shire Council.  It has several anecdotal names (Swimming Pool Park, Fountain Park, Honour Rock Park) but no official name.  Alpine Shire Council have asked the UKVCA to recommend an appropriate name.  So, we need your help.

Please email your suggested PARK name (and a reason for that name, if you want), along with your name to: info@ukvcommunity.org.au

We look forward to receiving your suggestions.

West Kiewa River Planning Meeting Report

This week, over 20 keen community members attended an information session presented by Lachlan Campbell (North East Catchment Management Authority) and Ian Vonarx (Dept. of Environment, Land, Water and Planning).

image image

Ian Vonarx (pictured above) talked about the planned project which will be undertaken along both sides of the West Kiewa River, upstream from the Kiewa Valley Hwy bridge towards the pump station.   The first stage of the work will be on the western side of the river to rid the existing dense infestation of weeds and inappropriate plantings.  Crews then move to the eastern bank to do similar work and you will also see a crew from the Green Army commencing on this in June.

The eventual aim is to make the eastern bank area an inviting space for walkers, fisherpersons and picnickers with better access to the river.

If you have any ideas which may be incorporated in the plan, email info@ukvcommunity.org.au
