West Kiewa Open Space Working Bee Report

Sunday, 23rd April was a perfect day for our first community working bee to begin clearing under the large trees in the West Kiewa Open Space.  This has been a long-standing item on the UKVCA Project List.  About 28 keen and committed community members did the hard work and Kiewa Valley Lions Club provided a welcomed BBQ afterwords.

UKVCA and the Lions Club sincerely thank all who helped on the day.  Look out for the notice of the next working bee (probably in Spring) as there is still more to be done.

West Kiewa Open Space – Notice of Working Bee

Since late 2015 UKVCA has been working to get the very large open space opposite the AGL offices cleaned up and useable for future community activities.  A community working bee will be held on Sunday, April 23rd, 10am to 1pm to be followed by a BBQ lunch provided by the Lions Club.

The main task at this time is to clean up the open space along the roadside and under the powerlines so that the mowing contractor has a clear run through and under the trees, and also hopefully to remove some of the additional obstructions such as the piles of cut tree residue.

UKVCA hope you are able to support this community project.  Please put the date on your April calendar.  More details will be sent out closer to the date.

Why is it called “Eddy”?

A beautiful day at the Mt. Beauty Playground.

Check out the new interpretive sign explaining why the  slide is called ‘Eddy’.

The official unveiling of the sign happened on Friday, 17th February.
UKVCA was instrumental in planning & organising the sign with financial support from our Mt. Beauty Community Bank. Jacqui Russell, Bendigo Bank, Mary Pike, Secretary of UKVCA, Barbara Pyle and Dorothy Morrison, representing the Community Bank were there.

UKVCA would also like to acknowledge the outdoor staff of Alpine Shire who installed the installation.

HYDRO PARK

In April, 2016, Upper Kiewa Valley Community Association decided that the ‘unnamed’ Park in the Mt. Beauty CBD needed an official name.

Facebook notices were placed on the local FB site, the UKVCA website  and in the local media.  48 individual names were suggested.  This list was the culled to the 6 most popular names.  Then this list was submitted to the Alpine Shire Council for consideration.   The outcome of the ASC checking resulted in 2 names for a Community decision.  UKVCA then ran a poll at the monthly market in July, 2016 as to the preferred name.  Hydro Park was the most popular choice.  This then went back to the ASC for gazetting and final approval.

The Hydro Park sign was installed in December, 2016

Australia Day, 2017 saw many visitors admiring the new sign.

UKVCA would like to thank all residents and visitors who participated in this consultation.  UKVCA also appreciate the work of  staff at the Alpine Shire Council in getting this approval and installing the sign.
